Our Teachers
Wendy Allen
I have been teaching preschool for the better part of 16 years.
After graduation from Dickinson College with a degree in English,
I headed to Washington, DC with hopes of becoming an up and coming
political journalist. I managed to get one article published before
I realized that the cutthroat life of a journalist wasnt for
me! Life changes had me moving to Clarksville, TN where I began
working as a four-year preschool teacher. By 1988, I was back in
New Jersey and teaching three-year-olds during the day (at the Palmer
School) and attending Raritan Valley Community College at night
to get my Early Childhood Teaching Certification. I taught three
year-olds from 1988 until 1993 when I took over as director of the
Center.
In 1995 my family moved to Maryland. My third son had just been
born and I decided to take some time off from teaching. My affiliation
with Children & Company started as soon as I moved here and
I enrolled my son at the school. I was an active member and participated
on the Board for 5 years during which my 3rd and 4th sons also attended
the school. In 2001, I decided that I was ready to head back to
work and I began teaching the two-year class and I have since co-taught
all 3 classes with the other wonderful teachers that we have on
our staff!

I received a B.S. in Finance in August 1996 from the University
of New Orleans. After my first son was born, I was involved in a
group known as Infancy to Independence in Metairie, LA. It was a
Mommy and Me group that worked with children ages birth to five
years. This is when I realized I missed my calling and decided to
stay at home with my son.
I moved to Columbia, MD in April 2000 and soon after had my second
son (one month later!). I enrolled my first son in Children &
Company that fall. My second son, attended the 3-year class in fall
2003 and I joined him in that class as the assistant teacher. I
have been involved in all three of our classes here at Children
& Company. In May 2006 I received a 90-hour Child Care Certification
from Howard Community College.
Angie Kowalewski
I began my teaching career in 1996, teaching three-year-olds at
a cooperative preschool in Windham, NH. After two years there, my
husband was transferred to MD, where I began teaching at Phelps
Luck Elementary School, here in Columbia. At Phelps Luck I taught
Kindergarten for a year and then moved to 2nd grade for the next
two years.
Once my husband and I decided to start our family (we have twin
daughters and welcomed twin sons in 2007), I began looking for a
job where I could spend more time at home but still do something
I love -- teaching young children. When Children & Company hired
me, I taught full-time and worked with all three classes. Upon returning
from my maternity leaves, I began teaching just two days a week.
My family and I have found that it's the perfect combination of
being at home with my children and keeping my foot in the world
of education!
Children & Company is a terrific place to be as a teacher,
a parent, or a child. It is my hope that you will be as thrilled
to be part of your child's education as I am. I also hope that you
enjoy coming to the classroom and seeing how your child grows and
learns in our comfortable and enriching environment. I look forward
to being your partner in your child's early education. |
